Patty Miller – Graduate Highlight

Boardman Training Center is excited to introduce our featured graduate of the month, Patty Miller!

“I wanted a change, and this is it.”

Patty Miller - Graduate Highlight

Patty recently graduated from BTC’s Medical Assisting program, completing her training in December 2023. She chose to attend Boardman Training Center after a long career doing transcriptions for a hospice company. She has been working in this position for 30 years and decided that there is no better time than the present to start her new journey. Patty chose to pursue a career in medical assisting because of friends in the field. “I have a few friends who are medical assistants, and they love it,” She said. “They told me I would be good at it.”

At the age of 55, Patty decided to change careers and become a medical assistant. In her previous position, she worked from home. She said attending Boardman Training Center gave her the intrapersonal interaction she was missing in her job. “Attending BTC gives me that [interaction], and it feels like a small family without judgment.”

Throughout her time as a student, Patty worked closely with every staff member at BTC. She especially appreciated the tremendous help and guidance from admissions team member Jennifer Fellows. “From my first meeting with Jen, it showed me a light at the end of my dark tunnel,” she said.

Looking To The Future

As Patty’s goal of a fulfilling career in medical assisting is now within reach, she hopes to use her newfound skills to secure a position working in a facility where she can continue learning. She says her ideal job is somewhere that appreciates her for the skillsets she brings to the job and helps her employer make their business successful. She hopes to “Thrive and make a difference in helping anyone I can along the way,” she said. “And be a part of something great.”

Patty’s biggest piece of advice for someone who wants to start school at Boardman Training Center is to never give up. “Have a goal, stay focused, and not lose sight of that goal,” she said. Never underestimate yourself in what you can do at any age. Never give up– you got this!
