Meet Kelly Day, our Boardman Training Center student highlight for this week!
Kelly is a current student in the Cardio Phlebotomy career training program at BTC. While enrolled in this accelerated healthcare program, Kelly will learn valuable hands-on skills that she will use in her future medical career, such as practicing fundamental patient care, performing EKGs, and carrying out venipuncture procedures.
When deciding on which program to enroll in, Kelly says she chose Cardio Phlebotomy because she wants “to gain the skills necessary to hopefully be able to provide great care to patients in any medical setting.”
Kelly chose Boardman Training Center to prepare for a career in healthcare because it met her needs for what she wanted in a school.
“I was looking for a program that offered multiple certifications, was close to home, and had small class sizes. BTC had everything I was looking for,” said Kelly.
Before enrolling in the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC, Kelly taught English as a second language to children in other countries. She also previously earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and social work from a university and holds a TEFL/TESOL certification.
“I love the positive energy from all the staff at BTC! Everyone is so supportive and always encouraging. They genuinely want to see every student succeed,” said Kelly when asked about her favorite part of attending classes at Boardman Training Center.
While attending her cardio phlebotomy classes at Boardman Training Center, Kelly will prepare for valuable healthcare certifications including Certified Phlebotomy Technician* and Certified EKG Technician*.
By learning important phlebotomy and EKG skills, students are prepared to work in a variety of healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, laboratories, emergency rooms, and long-term care facilities.
After graduation, Kelly would ideally like to work in a doctor’s office as a medical assistant.
When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Kelly said, “I would definitely refer everyone looking to get into the medical field to BTC. They provide one-on-one instruction and are always going above and beyond to make sure the students are prepared and feel confident.”
