Boardman Training Center is excited to introduce our featured student of the month, Nacheka Dawson!
Nacheka is a current student in BTC’s EKG Technician program, where she is learning skills that will make her a valuable member of the healthcare team. In addition to the hands-on skills she will obtain by the end of the program, Nacheka will also be prepared to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) National Healthcareer Association certification* exam.
Before deciding to attend Boardman Training Center, Nacheka had previous experience at a different college but decided it wasn’t a good fit. Since then, she has been a stay-at-home mom and focusing on building her business, Broken Esscents Candle Company. She decided to return to school because she wanted to enter the healthcare field and learn more about the heart, but what made her choose Boardman Training Center was reading the wonderful reviews, she says, “It seemed like a great place to go.”
Nacheka’s entrepreneurial spirit extends past her current candle-making endeavor, as she hopes that the EKG training she receives from Boardman Training Center will allow her to start her own business using her education. And in five years’ time, her goal is to become a successful entrepreneur.
Experience As An EKG Technician Student.
Nacheka’s interest in the heart and how it works is what encouraged her to attend Boardman Training Center, and in her education, she can expect to learn the knowledge and practice the skills she will be applying in the field as an Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician.
EKG Technicians play important roles in the patient’s healthcare experience, especially those with heart conditions or who are in the process of being diagnosed. Some of the essential skills Nacheka will learn during her time as a Boardman Training Center student include:
- Performing electrocardiograms (EKG)s for doctors and cardiologists
- Identifying normal and abnormal EKG readings
- Basic EKG waveform morphology
- Distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias
- Providing comfort to nervous patients
- Assisting physicians and cardiologists with testing
Along with the hands-on skills Nacheka will learn at Boardman Training Center, she will also be prepared to sit for the Certified EKG Technician certification* exam. Earning industry-specific certifications can open career opportunities for her by proving to employers that she possesses the skills and knowledge to work competently in the field.
