Megan Richards – Student Highlight

Meet Megan Richards, the Boardman Training Center student of the month!

Megan Richards is a current student at BTC in the Medical Office Specialist program, where she is learning valuable healthcare skills including medical administrative tasks, patient intake, injections, and more! Before starting the Medical Office Specialist program, Megan completed the Cardio Phlebotomy program, for which she earned her Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* and Certified EKG Technician (CET)* National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certifications!

Before deciding to attend Boardman Training Center, Megan was enrolled at a different college for dental assisting but realized that it wasn’t a good fit for her. So she chose to take a break from her job as a state-tested nurses assistant (STNA) for a few months to do hobbies she enjoyed like woodworking and crafts. At the same time, she explored what she wanted in life.

What set Boardman Training Center apart for Megan was the length of time she would spend in school, the school’s proximity, and that the faculty and staff were always friendly and welcoming. Megan says she chose to attend Boardman Training Center because after thinking about it for a while, she decided she likes the medical field and helping others.

As a student at Boardman Training Center in the Medical Office Specialist program, Megan will have the opportunity to learn hands-on skills, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and administrative tasks that will help make her a well-rounded healthcare professional. In addition, Megan will also be prepared to sit for several NHA certification exams, including Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)*, Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)*, and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)*. These certifications will show future employers that Megan has the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the healthcare field!

Megan’s ultimate goal once she completes her training at BTC is to begin working in a hospital. Five years from now, she sees herself settled into her career at a hospital, living her best life.

When asked if she would refer BTC to a friend, Megan says, “Yes, because it is a friendly, welcoming environment.” She adds to that recommendation, saying that the teachers make sure you understand the material they are teaching. Megan’s favorite class so far has been phlebotomy with Mrs. Jen because she makes sure the students know the material and pushes them to be great!

Students attending Boardman Training Center can learn fundamental skills they can apply directly to their future professions in months rather than years. Potential career opportunities include careers in medical facilities, private doctor’s offices, blood and plasma centers, nursing homes, and more! Our small, flexible day or evening classes can help students with busy lives balance family, work, and school.

Another benefit of attending the Boardman Training Center is that students prepare to sit for industry-specific certification exams for their desired program. This will set them apart from the competition when it comes time to enter the workforce. Other hands-on programs available at Boardman Training Center include Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician.

One of Megan’s favorite parts of attending Boardman Training Center is how dedicated the staff is to each student’s success. Each student can expect the same level of personalized attention from their instructors. The student-first approach at BTC offers every student academic, career, and personal support to help them through their academic journey.
