When is World Health Day?
World Health Day is celebrated on Monday, April 7th, 2025! This important day of awareness takes place the same day every year, the seventh of April. It marks the 77th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s foundation in 1948.
This day also celebrates the WHO’s overall goal of bringing global health awareness to reach the highest possible standard of health for everyone across the world and marks the beginning of a year-long health awareness campaign.
In this blog, Boardman Training Center (BTC) celebrates World Health Day’s importance in healthcare, how to get involved, and how BTC students are actively making a difference.
Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures
Each year, the World Health Organization highlights a public health concern and runs a year-long campaign to raise awareness and bring about improvement. This year, they have chosen the theme Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.
The campaign’s primary goal is to call attention to the health of mothers and their newborn babies. A healthy future starts with a healthy foundation. Raising awareness is only the first step. Awareness should lead to community involvement. Action from parents and healthcare professionals will be crucial to make real change. This includes keeping patients informed on all relevant health information relating to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
“The health of mothers and babies is the foundation of healthy families and communities, helping ensure hopeful futures for us all.”
– World Health Organization
There is a considerable need to close the gap in maternal and newborn survival. According to WHO, nearly 300,000 women lose their lives due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth every year, and over 2 million babies die during the first month after they are born.
Healthcare institutions must prioritize the improvement of the health and well-being of women and babies, from pregnancy through childbirth and into the postpartum period. Women need high-quality healthcare to support them mentally and physically through the challenging process of bringing a child into the world.
Get Involved
Wanting to make a difference in your community this World Health Day? BTC knows just how you can help. Here are a few things you can do:
- Help spread the WHO’s campaign message! Bring awareness to this current health crisis. A great way to have an impact is by sharing your own pregnancy and birth experiences. One of the quickest and most effective ways you can do this and share information is by using social media. The WHO has even created two hashtags to help facilitate the flow of information: #HopefulFutures and #HealthForAll.
- If you don’t feel comfortable sharing your personal stories online or don’t have any, take the time to thank our healthcare workers instead. They are pillars of our community.
- Donating to charitable organizations such as the WHO Foundation is another way to help push forward the work being done. Contributions to the foundation will help mothers and children all over the world.
- Be a part of the healthcare community! Be the change you wish to see in healthcare.
