Meet Sathita Schimek, our graduate highlight at Boardman Training Center!
Sathita is a recent graduate from our Cardio Phlebotomy program, which prepares students to start their healthcare careers in only 24 weeks with hands-on training for real medical skills.
“BTC is very close to me, and it is affordable with smaller classes,” said Sathita when asked why she chose to attend Boardman Training Center to prepare for her new career.
Before attending a healthcare training program here at BTC, Sathita went to a larger university. She felt overwhelmed and did not like the college setting.
Sathita also worked as an STNA at Mercy Health Boardman, which helped her decide to work in phlebotomy.
“I chose phlebotomy because I used to do it while I was at Mercy, and I loved it. I wasn’t certified, so why not get it,” said Sathita.
While completing her Cardio Phlebotomy training classes, Sathita learned real-world skills that she will use while on the job. Performing EKGs, drawing blood, controlling infections, and practicing fundamental patient care are skills she had the opportunity to practice in her classes.
Sathita says that all her teachers and classes were her favorites. “They all teach a different way, and that’s why I don’t have a favorite. They were very one-on-one and hands-on. If you didn’t understand something, you could ask,” said Sathita.
After graduating from Boardman Training Center, Sathita would like to work in phlebotomy. She is looking for a full-time job with good benefits.
In five years, Sathita would like to be back in school to continue her education. She would also like to be married, have a house, and have a baby.
When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Sathita said, “yes, because I learned a lot! I enjoyed the classes, and you can earn two certifications.* I learned so much in phlebotomy that I didn’t in the real world.”
