Paige Pavlock’s healthcare journey shows how one educational experience can open the door to new opportunities. After completing Boardman Training Center’s (BTC) EKG, Phlebotomy, and Medical Assisting Specialist programs, she has continued building on her skills and exploring different areas of the healthcare field. Now, she’s completed our Medical Billing and Coding Specialist program!

Through each program, Paige has gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience while discovering new ways to help others and contribute to healthcare. Keep reading this blog to learn more about her dedication to continued learning and how it shows there’s always an opportunity to grow, expand your skills, and find the healthcare career path that’s right for you.

Before BTC

Before attending Boardman Training Center, Paige had previously attended Youngstown State University, where she completed some college coursework but ultimately did not finish. When she decided to continue her education, she wanted a learning environment that offered more personalized support and hands-on instruction.

Paige chose BTC because of the opportunity to learn in “small classes” with more individualized attention from her instructor. She especially appreciated having “one-on-one with the teacher” and being “more hands-on with the teacher and students.” This personalized approach allowed her to stay engaged, ask questions, and gain practical experience as she continued developing her skills.

BTC Experience

Paige chose BTC’s Medical Billing and Coding program as another step in her ongoing healthcare journey. She stated, “I will recommend this program to anyone wanting to step into the medical field but is hesitant to.” With experience in multiple healthcare programs, she wanted to continue expanding her knowledge and earning additional certifications. As she explained, “I would love to have more certifications and keep building my knowledge in the medical field.”

Her experience in the program was both educational and rewarding. Paige especially enjoyed jumping into her coursework right away while connecting with classmates. She shared that her favorite part was “getting to dive right into the material and meeting a bunch of new people from all ages.”

Perhaps the most meaningful part of Paige’s journey has been seeing how far she has come. She remembers being in the same position as other new students, uncertain about where her education might lead. Now, she can look back and see how far she has come. “Knowing how just about 3 years ago I was sitting in one of those chairs, scared to see what this could bring me, and now I am right where I want to be,” Paige said. Her journey reminds us that taking that first step can lead to new opportunities, continued growth, and a career path that feels right.

Looking Ahead

After graduation, Paige hopes to put her medical billing and coding training to work as a “medical coder for outpatients.” Rather than focusing on one specific “dream job,” Paige has embraced each step of her healthcare journey as an opportunity to learn something new. She shared, “I honestly don’t have a dream job. I’ve actually learned my love for helping and this field through all the programs I’ve chosen! From EKG and phlebotomy to medical assisting. Now billing and coding!”

As she looks toward the next five years, Paige hopes her continued education and experience will open the door to greater flexibility in her career. One of her goals is to have a “more flexible schedule and maybe even an at-home job.” Her journey through multiple healthcare programs has given her the knowledge and experience to continue exploring where her skills can take her.

Take the Next Step Toward Your Future

Paige’s journey at Boardman Training Center shows how taking one step can lead to new opportunities, skills, and confidence. Her experience with the smaller class sizes and personalized instruction made a lasting impression, and she would gladly recommend BTC to others: “Of course! Because of how you get to have that connection with your teacher and the material at all times with such a small group.”

Her advice to future students is simple but powerful: “Be confident and stay true to yourself! You’ve got this. You got to the point where you are. Keep excelling and never give up on yourself.”
