Continue reading this blog to discover more about Mackenzie’s journey: her life before enrolling at BTC, her experiences and growth throughout the program, and the exciting path she wants to pursue now that she’s completed her program. Her story is an inspiring reminder of how hard work and a strong educational foundation can open doors to new opportunities.

Life Before BTC

Before enrolling at Boardman Training Center, Mackenzie was pursuing a nursing degree at a traditional university. While she valued the field and her desire to help others, she soon realized that the large class sizes and fast-paced environment didn’t provide the level of support she needed to truly succeed. Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “I left and came to BTC because the classes are smaller and more information was given and retained.”

For Mackenzie, the difference was immediate. Mackenzie chose BTC, “Because it was more one-on-one based than a classroom of 250 kids.” She found that BTC’s hands-on approach, individualized attention, and close-knit learning environment made it easier to understand complex medical concepts and feel confident in her skills.

The shift from a traditional university to a career-focused training program allowed her to learn at a pace that worked for her, ask questions freely, and build stronger connections with instructors and classmates. This supportive atmosphere played a key role in helping her stay motivated and fully engaged in her education.

Mackenzie’s Medical Assisting Experience

Mackenzie enrolled in Boardman Training Center’s medical assisting training program, a decision she made thoughtfully and with her long-term goals in mind. When asked why she chose this specific program, she explained, “Because it gave me a basis of everything and was more on the level I wanted to be.” She appreciated that the curriculum introduced her to both the clinical and administrative sides of healthcare, providing a foundation for her future career growth.

Throughout her time in the program, Mackenzie found her experience to be overwhelmingly positive. She shared, “My experience has been very good, especially with learning and the hands-on experience.” The balance of classroom instruction paired with practical application helped her strengthen her understanding of medical procedures while gaining confidence in her abilities.

Her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center was, without a doubt, the hands-on training. “The hands-on learning that we did provides further in-depth learning,” she said. These opportunities allowed her to move beyond textbooks and apply what she learned in realistic settings, preparing her for the fast-paced nature of the healthcare field.

Among the subjects she studied, Mackenzie was particularly drawn to venipuncture and injections. She enjoyed “learning how to do venipunctures because I like to know the process,” appreciating the precision and technique required. She also found injections fascinating, noting that “there are many ways and techniques you can use.” These skills not only aligned with her interests but also helped her feel more prepared and capable as she moved into her career.

Mackenzie’s enthusiasm for hands-on learning and her commitment to practicing essential clinical skills highlight her passion for providing quality patient care and her career readiness.

What’s Next?

Now that Mackenzie has graduated, she is excited to take the next steps toward building her career in healthcare. “My dream job is to work for Akron Children’s, and this program gives me a foot in the door to being closer to this goal,” she shared. While this is her top choice, Mackenzie remains open and optimistic about all opportunities, adding, “Any job would be fine and suit me.”

When asked about her long-term goals, Mackenzie expressed a strong desire to continue advancing in her career. “I would like to be accelerated from a medical assistant because I want to continue to grow,” she said. Looking five years into the future, she hopes to build on the foundation she created at BTC, taking on new responsibilities, expanding her skills, and moving into more advanced roles within the medical field.

Mackenzie’s ambition, combined with the knowledge and hands-on experience she gained at Boardman Training Center, positions her well for a successful and rewarding career. Her determination to keep progressing is a clear sign that her journey in healthcare is only just beginning.

When reflecting on her experience, Mackenzie is confident in recommending Boardman Training Center to others who are considering a career in healthcare. “I would refer because it was a great learning program and gives you the ability to work in a healthcare facility,” she explained. For her, BTC provided not only strong academic instruction but also the practical, real-world preparation needed to feel ready for the workforce. She appreciates how the program bridged the gap between the classroom and a professional healthcare environment, giving her the confidence to step into her new career.

Mackenzie also offered thoughtful advice to prospective students preparing to begin their own educational journeys. She emphasized the importance of staying engaged and taking advantage of every learning opportunity, saying, “Ask questions and show up to class because you learn something new every day, and it is a vital part of being successful in not just the program but your future career.”

For students looking to follow a similar path, Mackenzie’s words serve as a reminder that success begins with showing up, asking for help when needed, and embracing every opportunity to grow.
