Katie Mennor – Student Highlight

Meet Katie Mennor, our student feature of the week here at Boardman Training Center!

Katie Mennor – Student Highlight

Katie Mennor is a current student at BTC in the Cardio Phlebotomy program and, upon completion, will move into the Medical Office Specialist program. These programs will provide her with valuable skills to continue her medical career, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and medical assistant duties

As she completes her programs, Katie will have the option to sit for several National Healthcareer Association certification* exams, giving her a competitive advantage when she begins her search for a position in her new career. These certifications include the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)*, Certified EKG Technician (CET)*, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)*, Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)*, and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)* exams.

Before attending Boardman Training Center, Katie attended a different college for two years. She received an associate degree in science and took a certification exam to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). She currently works full-time as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) while balancing a busy life with her three children and attending BTC for healthcare training.

With her education from Boardman Training Center, Katie will become well-rounded as a healthcare professional. Coming from a medical background, she can utilize her existing knowledge and new skill sets for multiple potential career paths. In addition, she will learn hands-on skills and fundamental knowledge in phlebotomy, EKGs, lab skills, and administrative back office skills to help her begin her new career.

While Katie does not yet have a favorite class, she states that Mrs. Durich is her favorite teacher because she is knowledgeable about the medical field. The instructors at BTC are one of Katie’s favorite parts of her education, applauding how great they are at explaining information to students. Having instructors that can make something that might seem complicated easy to learn is a sign that they are experienced professionals in the field.

One of the reasons Katie chose to attend BTC is the variety of programs offered and the flexibility of the classes. As a full-time working mom, Katie knows the importance of an educational path that fits a busy life. At Boardman Training Center, our staff is there to help you succeed by offering student support and personalized attention.

Katie’s love of the medical field is a driving force for her education and career goals. In five years, she hopes to have a career that allows her to pay her bills, take family vacations with her three children, and save for her retirement. Katie also strives to find a career that motivates her to continue learning more about the medical field.

When asked if she would refer a friend to BTC, Katie says, “YES, I would refer anyone to BTC. They are very helpful, small classes, and want you to succeed in your career.”
