Meet Dana Domenick, our student highlight feature for this week here at Boardman Training Center.
Dana is currently enrolled in the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC. While completing her cardio phlebotomy classes, Dana is training for a new career by learning hands-on skills she will use after graduation. At BTC, students can complete their cardio phlebotomy training in just 24 weeks, allowing Dana to start her new career quickly.
There are a variety of reasons Dana chose Boardman Training Center to prepare for a new career in the healthcare field. “BTC is close to home, financially very reasonable, not a very big school, the classrooms are small, and it’s more hands-on,” said Dana.
Before deciding to attend school, Dana cared for her mom, who had passed away from cancer. She also takes care of her son, who is autistic.
Dana chose the Cardio Phlebotomy program because she has always been interested in that area of healthcare. She also liked that the program could be completed in a shorter amount of time so she could start her new healthcare career more quickly.
While enrolled in the Cardio Phlebotomy program, Dana can practice various hands-on skills that she can directly apply to her career, including carrying out venipuncture procedures, performing EKGs, drawing blood, and practicing fundamental patient care.
In addition to these patient care skills, Dana will also learn medical office skills such as entering patient data and managing administrative tasks. This well-rounded healthcare training will set Dana up for success in her future career.
So far, Dana says her favorite part of attending healthcare classes at Boardman Training Center has been the “support and help that teachers and faculty give us. They are patient and take their time with us,” said Dana.
When asked who her favorite teacher has been, Dana said that Sandy is her favorite so far. “I met her first and became very close to her,” said Dana. Dana’s favorite class has been medical terminology because she loves words and definitions.
After graduation, Dana wants to work as a medical assistant. Once she finishes the Cardio Phlebotomy program, Dana will be prepared to work in various healthcare facilities, including doctor’s offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and clinics.
In five years, Dana would like to be stable in her career. She would like to continue furthering her education once she is settled in her career and has some experience under her belt.
When asked if Dana would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, she said yes. “I love all of you. You all are great. I’m so thankful to be in this program with you. Thank you for everything,” says Dana about her experience at BTC.
