Keep reading this blog to learn more about Cadance’s journey and her experience in the phlebotomy technician training program.

Life Before BTC

Before coming to Boardman Training Center, Cadance was a high school student. She was a very involved student, participating in sports and working an after-school job. Cadance’s time in high school helped her learn to balance her personal, school, and work life, which helped her transition into continuing her education more easily.

Upon graduating high school, Cadance wondered what to do and discovered phlebotomy. She decided to pursue the career path and become a crucial part of healthcare. She said phlebotomy is “Something that is always needed.” Choosing a healthcare career like phlebotomy also allows her the opportunity to go anywhere.

Cadance’s Phlebotomy Experience

Cadance decided to continue her education at Boardman Training Center because of its convenient location and good reputation, as evidenced by the online reviews she saw. She was so happy with her decision as she was able to successfully balance her personal and work life while pursuing her dream of becoming a phlebotomist.

Cadance learned fundamental knowledge in areas such as physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and more. She now has the ability to draw blood from her patients, verify their identity, label the blood, and enter all the patient’s information into a database. She enjoyed learning everything in all her classes, but if she had to choose her favorite, it would be “Phlebotomy…I enjoyed learning how to use straight needles and butterflies.”

Not only did she gain new skills, but also new friends. Cadance’s favorite part about attending BTC has been the people. She considers herself a people person, so it was crucial to her that she got along with her fellow students and instructors. She said, “I’ve learned a lot, and everyone was really nice.” Liking who she was around made it a good time to attend class.

For Cadance, the most rewarding part of her experience in the Phlebotomy program was the opportunity to sit for and pass the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)* certification** that it prepares you for.

What’s Next?

Now that Cadance has graduated, she wants to pursue a position at UPMC Jameson Hospital in Newcastle, PA, although she’d be happy doing what she loves anywhere. She’s ready to make a difference and be a critical part of a healthcare team. She’s prepared to take on any challenges that come her way.

In the next few years, she wants to possibly attend nursing or MRI school to further her education and create the life she’s always dreamed of. This supports another dream of hers, which is hopefully starting a family in the coming years.

Cadance would absolutely recommend attending Boardman Training Center to a friend looking to continue their education and start a career in healthcare. She said it’s a great school and loves the convenient location. The advice that she’d give to a prospective student is, “Make sure you study and pay attention because time flies!”
