Training students for entry level positions in the healthcare field. Work in hospitals, out-patient centers , laboratories, private physicians' offices, skilled care and long term care facilities or related facilities including emergency, trauma, burn, wound and cancer treatment centers.
An introduction to the skills necessary for various healthcare professions. Basic medical terminology and core competencies such as communication, infection control, HIPAA regulations, medical law and ethics, quality assurance, and professionalism. Students are trained in AED (automated external defibrillator) use. Certification in CPR (adult/child/infant) included.
Introduction to an electrocardiograph (EKG) machine, heart monitors, and understanding the results of EKG recording. Identification of basic normal EKG waveform morphology, describing the normal physiology of cardiac conduction, distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias and describing the distinguishing features and associated treatments for each basic dysrhythmia.
Introduction to the use of specimen collection equipment, collection procedures and skin puncture techniques, and to acceptable standards of work in the industry. Basics in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, infection control, universal precautions, safety, best practices in the healthcare field, development of basic phlebotomy skills.
The Patient Care Technician works alongside doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to oversee and monitor patients. This Patient Care Techniques program will provide the student with the basic medical knowledge and skills needed to perform direct patient care. Upon completion, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Students who successfully complete the Cardio/Phlebotomy program have the opportunity to take the Medical Office Specialist program to prepare for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and Certified Billing and Coding Specialist exams.
- Medical Office Specialist
This program trains medical assisting students in direct patient care and front office administration. Skills delivered include, vital signs, patient intake, charting, collection of laboratory specimens, injections, suture removal, oral medication, visual acuity, and basic wound care. The program also trains students to assist in areas of HIPAA, compliance, and insurance processing. Students will become proficient in scheduling, pre-authorizations and referrals, and proper completion of CMS 1500 forms.
