An introduction to the skills necessary for various healthcare professions. Basic medical terminology and core competencies such as communication, infection control, HIPAA regulations, medical law and ethics, quality assurance, and professionalism. Students are trained in AED (automated external defibrillator) use. Certification in CPR (adult/child/infant) included.
Introduction to an electrocardiograph (EKG) machine, heart monitors, and understanding the results of EKG recording. Identification of basic normal EKG waveform morphology, describing the normal physiology of cardiac conduction, distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias and describing the distinguishing features and associated treatments for each basic dysrhythmia.
Introduction to the use of specimen collection equipment, collection procedures and skin puncture techniques, and to acceptable standards of work in the industry. Basics in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, infection control, universal precautions, safety, best practices in the healthcare field, development of basic phlebotomy skills.
The Ohio Real Estate class meets the pre licensing education requirements as set forth by the Ohio Department of Commerce for individuals interested in testing for their Ohio Real Estate Salesperson License. The course covers real estate principles and practices, Ohio real estate law, real estate appraisal and real estate finance. Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to apply to take the Ohio real estate salesperson exam.
The Personal Trainer certification course meets required standards by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to achieve its certification. It will prepare students to take the American Council of Exercise nationally recognized certification exam. Students are provided with the information and education associated with becoming a personal trainer, including anatomy and kinesiology, exercise physiology, fitness assessments, training techniques, client program design, safety and injury prevention.
The Health Coach course meets required standards by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to achieve its certification. This course includes behavior changing psychology, weight management; including the physiology of obesity, practices for lifestyle coaching, and how to relate the relationship among exercise, nutrition and weight control. This certification will help you connect with your clients and increase opportunities in fields such as workplace wellness and health care.
The Group Fitness Instructor certification course meets required standards by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to achieve its certification, as well as the skills necessary to lead an unsurpassed group fitness experience. This course provides a quality educational experience that prepares students to succeed in the area of group fitness instruction. The Group Fitness Instructor Certification Program provides students with the knowledge to function as a professional member of the fitness instruction industry, and the ability to begin a career at fitness studios, health clubs and in private businesses.
The Advanced Health and Fitness Specialist course meets required standards by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to achieve its certification, as well as the skills necessary, to work with special health populations, in addition to the general healthy population. This course provides students with information in regards to exercise programming for special population groups, learn different behavior-change models to improve motivation, warning signs for eating and exercise disorders and to understand the federal dietary recommendations.
The Pharmacy Technician certification course prepares students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Pharmacy technicians who accomplish PTCB certification may find their CPhT standing helps distinguish them from other candidates, when pursuing career opportunities. Our course includes instruction on code of ethics and standards, pharmacy law, health insurance, pharmaceutical practice, both sterile and non-sterile compounding, pharmacy math, and medication safety.
The Early Childhood Education course provides students with the skills needed for a career as a Child Development Associate. Students of this program will be qualified to take the CDA certification issued by The Council for Professional Excellence. Students will cover topics such as, planning a safe, healthy environment to promote learning, how to advance a child's physical and intellectual development, supporting a child's social and emotional development, observing and documenting behavior, as well as learning the principles of child development and learning.
The Nurse Aid training program (STNA) meets the education and testing requirements for nursing assistants as required by the Ohio Department of Health to work in long-term care facilities. Upon completion of our training program, students will be qualified to take the State Nurse Aide (STNA) examination. This course teaches the student the responsibilities of an STNA, as well as the functions of the health team, basic patient care and activities of daily living, special issues related to home care, patient rights and safety concerns including basic life support and family care. Clinical experiences are also provided to allow the students to exhibit their skills learned in a healthcare settings under the supervision of facilities nurses.
The Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) Certification Preparation course prepares students to sit for the PHR/SPHR certification exam. The course covers the six functional areas of the certification exam, which include business management and strategy, workforce planning, and employment, human resource development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations and risk management. The course is designed for the experienced HR professional looking to add professional certifications to their credentials.
The Patient Care Technician works alongside doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to oversee and monitor patients. This Patient Care Techniques program will provide the student with the basic medical knowledge and skills needed to perform direct patient care. Upon completion, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
A medical office specialist must hold the skills necessary to attend to a patient in an office setting. They work alongside doctors, other healthcare providers, triage and treat patients. This includes obtaining vital signs, collection of laboratory specimens, injections, suture removal, oral medication, visual acuity and basic wound care.
Not only will the medical office specialist program provide the student with the basic medical knowledge and skills needed to perform direct patient care, but it will also provide the student with the skills necessary for medical office administration. They will become proficient in scheduling, pre-authorizations and referrals, patient intake, charting, office logistics, and compliance. The student will also be skilled in patient education, office policies and procedures.
A medical billing specialist must hold skills necessary to attend to the needs of the doctor's office by scheduling appointments, ensuring patient/provider compliance, proper completion of CMS 1500 forms, ICD 10, and current billing procedures. They work alongside doctors and other healthcare providers to prevent insurance fraud and abuse, as well as maintain HIPAA.
