Introduction To Healthcare
An introduction to the skills necessary for various healthcare professions. Basic medical terminology and core competencies such as communication, infection control, HIPAA regulations, medical law and ethics, quality assurance, and professionalism. Students are trained in AED (automated external defibrillator) use.
Certification in CPR (adult/child/infant) included.
Introduction to an electrocardiograph (EKG) machine, heart monitors, and understanding the results of EKG recording. Identification of basic normal EKG waveform morphology, describing the normal physiology of cardiac conduction, distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias and describing the distinguishing features and associated treatments for each basic dysrhythmia.
Introduction to the use of specimen collection equipment, collection procedures and skin puncture techniques, and to acceptable standards of work in the industry. Basics in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, infection control, universal precautions, safety, best practices in the healthcare field, development of basic phlebotomy skills.
